Future-Ready Leadership: Skills for an Evolving Healthcare Landscape ​

Five-Part Certificate Course 
Live Virtual Certificate Course: Five Sessions, Each Two Hours Long
Ontario’s healthcare system is moving rapidly towards a more integrated, holistic and personalized model of care.  In this shifting landscape, leadership is no longer defined by position alone—success depends on the ability to develop new mindsets, build strategic partnerships, and influence change across organizations. ​

With community-based health and social care organizations playing an increasingly vital role in this transformation, leaders at all levels must develop new skills to thrive in a complex and collaborative environment.

You can play a critical role in shaping this transformation by leading with vision, strategy and impact. This highly interactive 10-hour course provides foundational knowledge and practical tools to help you build or strengthen your skills in systems thinking, strategic influence and cross-sector collaboration.   ​
Session 1: Systems Thinking - Looking Beyond Your Organizational Boundaries
This session will challenge you to move beyond the confines of your organization and develop a systems thinking mindset that prioritizes collaborative transformation and shared client outcomes.
Session 2: Emotional Intelligence in Collaborative Care Leadership ​
Emotional intelligence is not just a "soft skill" but a strategic capability in healthcare. It enhances partnerships by fostering trust and collaboration and enables system-wide influence by improving leadership, communication, and adaptability. This session will show you how to harness the power of emotional intelligence to strengthen partnerships based on trust, mutual understanding and shared goals - inspire action.
Session 3: Building Strategic Partnerships and Networks  ​
This session explores how to identify and cultivate strategic partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem. You will better understand partner motivations and perspectives, learn how to overcome organizational barriers, and maintain productive long-term relationships with diverse stakeholders and organizations. 
Session 4: Strategic Influence and Advocacy
Effective leadership requires the ability to advocate, persuade, and establish credibility. You will learn how to craft compelling messages, build a strong professional presence, and leverage networks and social media to expand your influence and amplify your impact.
Session 5: Fostering Innovation for System Transformation​
In an integrated health system, leaders must think beyond traditional silos, adapt to complex challenges, and find new ways to collaborate. This session explores strategies for fostering innovation, adapting to challenges, and leveraging creative problem-solving to enhance collaboration, advocacy, and client-centered care. ​

Who Should Attend? ​
This course is designed for early to mid-career leaders in community-based health and social care organizations, including managers, team leads and program coordinators. It is also ideal for staff identified as having leadership potential and in need of foundational knowledge before advancing to more senior roles. Additionally, healthcare professionals with clinical expertise transitioning into leadership positions within community-based organizations will find this course valuable. ​

Leslie Eckel is an internationally recognized healthcare and social services consultant, educator, and published author.  With over 35 years of experience, she has a strong background in coaching, training, and strategic development. Leslie spent over a decade as a Knowledge Exchange Associate at the University of Waterloo, and is currently a Professor of Health Care Administration and Management at Conestoga College, where she designs and delivers essential leadership education to the health and social service leaders of tomorrow. Leslie creates engaging and interactive sessions tailored to meet the unique needs of each audience. Her engaging style fosters open dialogue and equips participants with actionable tools to navigate challenges, foster growth, and inspire success in leadership roles. ​

The course will be delivered live, via Zoom.  Registrants will receive a link and program materials prior to the first session.  
  • Registration is on a per person basis.  Sharing sign-on links or broadcasting sessions to a group is strictly forbidden.​ ​

Your Certificate ​
Participants who successfully complete all course requirements will receive a paper certificate of achievement (physical copy) and a digital certificate you can upload directly to your LinkedIn profile. To qualify to receive a certificate of achievement, participants must:
  • Attend at least four out of the five sessions. Attendance will be tracked throughout the course.
  • Complete 100% of class assignments (approximately one hour outside of class time will be required to complete all assignments).
  • Actively participate in large and small group discussions, group exercises, role playing and case studies to address real-world leadership challenges. 
  • Contribute to peer learning through collaboration, feedback and sharing experiences.

Withdrawal and Refund Policies
  • Registrants who need to cancel must do so at least 14 business days before the date of the first session. 
  • Cancellations made at least 14 business days before the first session will receive a 60% refund. Cancellations made less than 14 business days before the first session will not receive a refund. 
  • You may substitute a participant up to one day before the first session, free of charge.
